Royal Mail boss hauled before Business and Trade Committee

Our post is broken. And our community is suffering for it.


Missing hospital letters. Lost prescriptions. Court documents going astray. I've been hearing it on doorsteps right across the constituency.


So, the Commons Business and Trade Committee, which I chair, hauled in the Royal Mail's new owner. He’s on notice.


He has committed to publishing an improvement plan. I'll be watching - and reporting every step back to you.

This is quite an interesting update and it really shows how closely Royal Mail is being scrutinised by MPs right now. The fact that the Business and Trade Committee is still calling executives back for questioning says a lot about how serious the concerns around delivery performance and service standards have become. From what I understand, a lot of the discussion seems to focus on whether letters are being deprioritised compared to parcels, which is something many people across the UK have been noticing in recent years. It’s also interesting how these committee hearings often highlight the gap between what companies say publicly and what workers or unions are reporting on the ground.
