Byrne lobbies Minister for Hodge Hill hospital improvements

Today, Hodge Hill MP, Liam Byrne, lobbied Health Minister, Lord Markham, for the funding needed to upgrade the A&E and Maternity Unit at Heartlands hospital.

After speaking to the minister while they both were visiting Heartlands Hospital in Byrne’s Hodge Hill constituency, Mr Byrne said:

“The new Diagnostics Centre is a fantastic asset for our hospital but if we are to ensure that Heartlands is fit to care for our community from the moment of birth through moments of trauma, we urgently need the government to invest in a new A&E and maternity unit.

“Today is just the start of the conversation; I will continue to fight for a better-equipped, better-maintained hospital for our community."

Since he became the Hodge Hill MP in 2004, Liam has campaigned vigorously to improve health services in East Birmingham. As a result of that work, more than £120 million has been invested in Heartlands Hospital, Health Centres and GP services.
