Feeding Kids, Backing Families, Building a Fairer Britain

Today, our Labour Government is putting £500 back into the pockets of parents every single year by expanding Free School Meals to every child in a household on Universal Credit. That’s over half a million children no longer going hungry.

That’s support where it’s needed most; help with the cost of living, relief at the kitchen table, and the chance every child deserves to learn, grow, and thrive. Birmingham faces a child poverty emergency. I see it every day - bright, talented young people trapped by poverty, denied the chances others take for granted. In one of the richest countries on Earth, too many children go to school hungry while their parents struggle to make ends meet. This isn’t inevitable - it’s the result of political choices that have failed a generation.

Expanding free school meals to all families on Universal Credit is not just smart policy - it’s a moral imperative. It means food in hungry bellies, money back in parents’ pockets, and a step toward restoring fairness. A country that lets its children go hungry is not strong, not fair, not just. This Labour government is acting to put that right - because a country that feeds its children is a country that believes in its future.

Such an important initiative supporting families and ensuring kids don’t go hungry is essential for building a fairer Britain. As a student balancing studies and part-time work, I really value efforts that promote fairness and opportunity. Getting MATLAB Assignment Help has also eased the pressure in my academic life. Thanks for sharing this inspiring work!
