BUDGET WINS FOR HODGE HILL & SOLIHULL NORTH

Today’s Budget sets out a series of commitments that will make a real difference for families across Birmingham Hodge Hill and Solihull North – from the cost of living to children’s services, schools, transport and neighbourhood renewal.
Here are the key wins for our area:
🔺 Cost of living support
£150 off energy bills next year, plus the expansion of the Warm Home Discount to help 6 million households.
Freeze on NHS prescription charges and the first freeze in nationally-regulated rail fares for 30 years.
Fuel duty freeze extended to August 2026, saving households around £89 next year.
🔺 Tackling child poverty
Ending the two-child limit in Universal Credit, benefiting an estimated 8,900 children in Hodge Hill & Solihull North and lifting 450,000 children out of poverty nationally.
🔺 Schools & childcare
Funding for breakfast clubs in three local schools.
New school-based nursery funding for The Shirestone Academy.
Application window opened for 2,000 new breakfast clubs nationally and expanded eligibility for free school meals for children on UC.
🔺 Housing & renters’ rights
Renters’ Rights Act 2025 to stop unfair rent hikes and abolish Section 21 evictions.
Stronger enforcement against rogue landlords and illegal labour practices.
🔺 NHS & primary care
Local GP surgeries receiving investment through the Primary Care Utilisation and Modernisation Fund, including Hodge Hill and Solihull practices.
Nationally, £15bn real-terms uplift to NHS resource budgets by 2028-29.
🔺 Jobs, youth support & regeneration
Pride in Place regeneration programme means Glebe Farm awarded £20m over ten years
Major investment into West Midlands transport, city-region infrastructure, business support and new creative clusters.
🔺 Illegal high street operations
Significant increase in enforcement action against criminal high-street premises – vital for protecting legitimate businesses across our community.
🔺 Investment zones & growth funds
Hodge Hill & Solihull North to benefit from the West Midlands Investment Zone, unlocking R&D, business growth and new jobs.
£902m for the Local Growth Fund and £500m for the Mayoral Revolving Growth Fund to boost regional investment.
